The why your career isn't working quiz

The diagnostic most people avoid because it tells the truth.

Everyone talks about “finding your passion,” “building strengths,” or “working harder.”

None of that matters if the three fundamentals of your career are misaligned.

This quiz tells you which part of your Career Triangle is quietly destroying your momentum: Ready, Willing, or Able. Answer honestly.

Or don’t — but your career will tell the truth for you.

Rate each from 1 (Not true at all) to 5 (Always true)

SECTION 1 — READY (The Brutal Effort Check)

1. When things get messy or ambiguous, I keep delivering.

2. I don’t disappear when the pressure rises.

3. I recover fast after being criticized or rejected.

4. I do the hard, boring, necessary work even when I don’t feel like it.

5. My work ethic is visible — people notice.

READY SCORE: ___ / 25

If you score low here, you’re not stuck — you’re inconsistent.

SECTION 2 — WILLING (The “Do I Even Want This?” Check)

6. The environment I work in feels like a fit for who I am.

7. What motivates me shows up in my daily work.

8. I don’t dread Mondays.

9. I feel a sense of belonging with the culture and people.

10. I could stay here without feeling trapped.

WILLING SCORE: ___ / 25

Low scores here mean you’re in the wrong place — and no amount of effort will fix that.

SECTION 3 — ABLE (The “Stop Forcing It” Check)

11. I naturally excel at the core tasks of my role.

12. I grow faster than the average person in my field.

13. People rely on me for the things I’m inherently good at.

14. My work feels smooth, not forced.

15. I’m using talents that feel like “me,” not borrowed skills.

ABLE SCORE: ___ / 25

Low here means you may be working hard at something you’ll never be world-class at.

HOW TO INTERPRET YOUR TRIANGLE

A. High in all three (≈ 20–25 each)

You’re in your career Sweet Spot — the rare zone where performance compounds and growth feels natural.

Most people never reach this.

B. One weak leg (one < 10)

This is the truth most people avoid:

That weak leg is the real reason you’re not progressing.

Not the economy, not your boss, not your résumé.

C. Two weak legs (two < 10)

You’re in the wrong role, wrong environment, or wrong field — and your effort is being wasted.

This is the fast lane to burnout or a mid-career crash

D. All three low (< 10)

You’re not broken.

You’re just misaligned on every axis — which means you’re working against yourself.

This is exactly where reinvention begins, not where it ends.

THE PART NOBODY TELLS YOU

Most careers fail not because people aren’t talented, but because:

  • They’re Ready but in the wrong environment.

  • They’re Able but unmotivated.

  • They’re Willing but inconsistent in execution.

Fix the wrong leg and everything else accelerates.

Ignore it, and you’ll keep wondering why you’re exhausted and underused.
